“Jason!” squealed the hostess at the café in Brownsville. “My finger looks great. I’m so glad you came here for lunch.”
Jason Goolsby, D.O., and the hostess explained to me that Doctor Goolsby stitched her finger the week prior to our visit to the café, and yes, it was healing nicely.
Doctor Goolsby joined Brownsville Family Medicine in Fall 2009, and is practicing with Jack Pettigrew, D.O., Adam English, D.O. and Linda Weatherly, F.N.P. Because of the opportunities Doctor Goolsby had to work with them while completing his residency training at The University of Tennessee Jackson Family Medicine Residency, Doctor Goolsby transitioned into his new role quickly.
“I knew Doctor English from my residency training, and came to know Doctor Pettigrew and Ms. Weatherly during my rotations. Choosing to begin my practice in Brownsville was a great decision; it was a good fit.” Doctor Goolsby said.
Brownsville is located in Haywood County whose population is 19,024 residents. More than 5,300 people (28.21 percent) are enrolled in TennCare. Haywood County’s poverty rate is 22.4 percent and ranks 86th of Tennessee’s 95 counties.
“I grew up in a small town where everyone knew everyone’s business. We had columns in our weekly paper that talked about how older women had gone to visit grandchildren and who came over for Sunday dinner”, Doctor Goolsby said.
“I picture my wife and I being in a small town because those are the values that we were both raised with. I want to provide quality medical care to those who do not have that available because my family members are in the same situation. I look forward to being the doctor in a small town who is trusted and known for taking care of grandma or grandpa when they were sick. I want to promote that medical home and educate my patients regarding their health and how to improve and maintain that”, Doctor Goolsby said.
Doctor Goolsby is one of 28 physicians and one of 25 stipend recipients The Rural Partnership has helped during the past two years.
